About the Project

The Gumball API brings together the data of The Amazing World of Gumball in one place: the characters, locations, episodes, seasons, songs, games, and media of the series. The idea came from projects like the Rick and Morty API and PokéAPI, which offer free, organized data sources for their universes. It is a real, fun API for anyone who wants to practice consuming REST APIs, with pagination and filters, or build apps, bots, and websites about Elmore.

The project is a monorepo with two deployments on Vercel. The API was built with NestJS, Prisma, and PostgreSQL on Supabase, organized into one module per resource, with unit and end-to-end tests in Vitest. The Next.js website brings together the overview, the complete documentation, and a contact page, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

Key features:

  • Seven connected resources: 245 characters, 112 locations, 305 episodes, 8 seasons, 156 songs, 81 games, and 16 media items
  • Pagination, filters, sorting, lookups by id or slug, and random picks on every route
  • Open access, with no authentication or API key and CORS enabled
  • Layered security: GET routes only, rate limiting per IP, and a database protected by RLS
  • Interactive documentation, with a panel to send real requests on every route
  • A website with light and dark themes and a contact form validated on the server

A personal project that combines my fondness for the series with good practices for building and documenting APIs.
